Same stuff every single day

We've been experiencing the same complaints on a daily basis for the past three weeks. You see, the library is still in the process of renovation on the first floor.

The renovation process has moved into the second phase. This means that the new fiction stacks are gone. The new DVD stacks are gone. The express internet computers are gone.

Now, the new books are mixed in with the older works of fiction. The problems occur when we (the staff) are trying to explain the changes to the patrons. Because the bank of express computers had to be removed, there are now more express computers on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors.

Often, patrons walk away while I am in the middle of explaining the new changes. Others yell, " NOW, Whose BRIGHT IDEA was this, because it surely isn't working."

I don't think that people adapt well. Even if they understand that you are renovating, they want you to do it at a time that doesn't interfere with what they are doing. Some people you just can't please.

After three weeks of saying the same thing, I must agree with you.

Just yesterday, we found out that the librarians who staff the information desk on the first floor were giving out incorrect information regarding my floor. Hence, the angry patrons.

Their supervisor had to issue an e-mail, informing them what must be said in response to the changes on my floor.

People want what they want, when they want it. Anything that gets in the way of that is instantly met with hostility.

We feel the hostility every single day. The new question is, "Well, when will they be finished with downstairs so that we can have the New Fiction Shelves again?" We all know that there isn't a set deadline in a remodeling project!

ooh the woes of dealing with the city when it comes to renovation...

i suppose the library is someplace people seek comfort and free internet access so change would be challenging!
